To facilitate households and small businesses in managing the increasing cost of energy, the Australian government has declared the $750 rebate on electricity. This is part of the initiative toward financial relief from the electricity tariffs for the 2024-2025 financial year.
Eligibility Criteria
Households must mainly be account holders for electricity bills and have a current concession card like a Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card, Commonwealth Seniors Health Card, Department of Veterans Affairs Gold Card, or Carrer Allowance. It may also require a current state-based energy concession program.
Small businesses have to operate in Australia, hold an Australian business number (ABN), have a separate metered electricity account, and consume less than 160 MWh per year.
Application Process
Most of the eligible recipients will automatically have this credit reflected on their electricity bills if their energy supplier participates in this program and confirms eligibility. For unique cases, such as a resident in an embedded network or a special billing scenario for their business, a manual application path is used.
For manual applications, the usual steps are downloading and filling an application form on the official energy website of the government, submitting necessary documentation, and then checking back in your account if the credit has been applied.
Payment Schedule
The rebate is paid in four installments every year directly into the electricity accounts of eligible households and businesses. This rebate schedule is meant to provide constant relief at the time of expenditure throughout the year.
This initiative has been taken to provide short-term relief, while at the same time it offers incentives to Australians to promote energy efficiency with the government promoting energy-efficient appliances and practices.
