Survey of Disability Living Allowance (DLA).
Disability Living Allowance (DLA) is a tax-free benefit in the UK meant specifically for children aged under 16 due to a severe disability that requires extra care and/or mobility. It further serves to alleviate the financial constraint imposed on families with special needs children. DLA consists of two separate components–i.e. the care and mobility components; the rate of the component depends upon the extent of help required by the child generated by the same.
DLA Care Component Rates
The care component gives money to those children who have greater needs for care and attention than normal children at that particular age. The rate is determined according to the severity of the child’s condition. The lowest rate is given to children who need some help from time to time with some chores during the day. The highest rate is given for children requiring substantial care both day and night.
DLA Mobility Component Rates
The child must be having problems moving about or require assistance when out of doors; the lower rate is to be considered for children who need guidance or supervision when walking while the higher rate should be for those children with severely restricted mobility or an inability to walk as a result of their health condition.
DLA Eligibility Criteria
The eligible child must be under 16 and with a long-term disability or health condition that profoundly limits their daily functioning. These needs must have been evident for at least 3 months and be projected to continue for at least an additional 6-9 months. In addition, these conditions require the child to live in the United Kingdom or European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland at the time of application. Confirmation is required that the child has spent a total of six months in these places over the previous one year.
Applying for the DLA Further
Applications should be submitted online or through paper forms, which are downloadable from the UK government website. Medical and other supporting evidence for the child’s disability and care needs must be provided by a suitable vehicle. Applications are assessed and a decision is made regarding the payment of DLA and the amount.
Any queries in this respect, contactless information would be found on the website of the UK government. The Uttar Pradesh (India) Excise Portal does not talk about DLA benefits in any way.
